I have tried both the watches on and I just can't seem to make up my mind. ![]() I need to make a decision in the next couple of days. I am confused and would be grateful if you could share your views and experiences with either of the watches. Then again I was wondering it if I should go ahead and buy it because I do like the looks of it and feel like its a notch above the watch I am planning on buying. I also have the option of buying the "Carrerra day and date" in white, its slightly more expensive and I am not particularly fond of white. I am aware that it is certified as a 100 meter water resistant watch but the fact that it does not have a screw down pusher get me a little worried.Ĭ) I have read that the bezel is prone to scratches(like any other watch) but a lot more than other watches, supposedly. My questions are:Ī) Is it something that I can wear everyday to college (like a daily beater) or is it a delicate watch.ī) I was a bit concerned with the crown since its not a screw down crown and I do have the habit of swimming with my watch on. The ones I read were mostly negative and slightly biased towards other brands. ![]() However, I was unable to find adequate information/review about the watch. I ended up buying an Omega seamaster Chrono and I have been happy with it. I have been a big fan of Tag Heuer since high school, I liked the Aquagraph the most but it was not available when I was in a position to make my first big purchase. I love the looks of the watch and have always wanted to own one. I have plans of buying a Tag Heuer Carrera model number CV2010.BA0794. I have not had the opportunity to post a question since I have not made a purchase in a couple of years. Old European Cut Diamonds were Designed to be Gazed into… Instead the diamond possessed a warm, candle-like softer sparkle, but with incredible grace and beauty. This meant that tables were much smaller, facets were less precisely placed (and shaped) and the end result was that the diamond cutter could not craft a diamond that has today’s bling. During the 1900’s, diamonds were cut entirely by hand. Round Brilliant has to start with the diamond cutting technology available at the time. To the lay-person they are very similar: they are both round, both have 57 facets (or 58 if we include a cutlet), from a distance they both have about the same proportions, and they both demonstrate a fascinating cut that causes the heart to skip a beat or two… That is where the similarity ends.Īny discussion between an Old European Cut diamond vs. One of the most common questions that comes up from vintage engagement ring buyers is: what’s the difference between an Old European Cut Diamond and a Round Brilliant Cut. As a consequence, over the years many were re-cut into round brilliant stones, destroying any possibility that if they came back in vogue the owner would have a true gem (pun intended!). More importantly, their design was not to maximize scintillation, fire and brilliance, but to maximize color and clarity. Cut entirely by hand, they lacked the facet and shape precision of a round brilliant diamond. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that until about 25 years ago, Old European Cut Diamonds were considered inferior. This means that you’ll need to buy a pre-owned diamond, and very few of them exist. You need a specialist who has access, because nearly all diamond cutters are not trained to cut the Old European diamond anymore… Old European Cut Diamonds (circa 1900) and Old Mine Cut Diamonds (circa 1800) are just not available to the masses. Indeed, if you went to our #1 recommend online jeweler ( ) and clicked on the diamond selection tool, the only round diamond available is the round brilliant. There are a lot of reasons for this, but the primary one is that jewelry salespeople are trained to position their offering well in the minds of buyers, not know the history of rare designs that are not available in mass production. In fact, many salespeople in the diamond trade don’t even know that other round cuts exist. If you walk into any diamond store across the world and asked about round diamonds, 99% of the time, the conversation would be about round brilliant cuts. Because Jewelers on 47 th Street’s Jewelers Row are also very competitive. The problem is exacerbated in the New York diamond district. ![]() This means that a jeweler who specializes in Old European Cut Diamonds vs Round Brilliant stones, better have either very little competition or a very loyal following if they want to thrive. Who would blame them? It does come down to preference. They want bigger diamonds, brilliant cuts and laddered side-stones. The challenge is that even though these rings are so very special, most of today’s buyers are far more interested in modern designs and cuts. They read the paper in the morning, they don’t stream the news from the internet, live (and usually incorrect) as it happens… Very importantly, they know how truly special an old European cut diamond is, especially sitting atop a rare and timeless vintage or antique engagement ring. Because their life is simplified, they look at these ads for what they are, and wonder why others don’t do the same. These buyers don’t know the meaning of “HD” because they live every moment of life in person. A phone call should come from a phone attached to the wall, and only when it does not interrupt the deep and meaningful activities of the two wayward souls. In their world, cell phones do not exist. They believe that life, simplified, is the best life of all. ![]() Most are deeply romantic, and see the ring as an offering of timeless love. Win3.1 installed with everything suggested in the guide except Win32s. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R Mother Board (rev 1.0) The problem I have is that I cannot remember any of the games I ran into this problem with (thus my not putting it into the Request topic.) ![]() In some cases, I could just start copying files onto disk one until it would go all the way through to disk 2, then repeat the process (mind numbingly tedious, let me tell you, but sometimes worth it.) Alternately, I could have just said "to heck with it," and sent off for the disk replacements. So, my game wouldn't install because the installer expected to find files on Disk 1 that were actually on Disk 2. ![]() The problem I ran into on a couple of occasions is that the installer looked at the size of the disk to determine where it looked for files to copy off of the disks. I would copy the files over to blank 3.5" disks formatted to have matching labels. Back in the day (386/486 era,) there were several times a game I wanted was in the wrong format (I only had a 3.5" drive then.) I would go ahead and buy it though, then if the copy protection was "off disk," (and they were almost all the time by then,) I would go to a friend that had both types of drives. I've been considering putting the second issue under "Feature Requests," but I'm not doing it so far because of a faulty memory. If what I believe is correct with the main Floppy problem, this should solve that issue as well. It would be nice, if it can be done cross platform, if you could specify (or force,) DOSBox to treat a MOUNT as if it was to a removable drive (or Virtual Drive,) and that it would read the numbers through the host OS instead of just putting up what appears to be stock numbers. Or, that is to say the CD sometime "appear" to be fairly accurate, never actually measured them. Also, with the CD-Rom, if I have a DVD mounted (my Virtual Drive can handle DVD images as well,) the numbers become very strange, and nowhere near accurate (except the "0" space free.) Mounted CDs are sometimes accurate as to "Used" space. The total space for the CD being the "official" maximum size of 1G. The "Free" space is, of course, reported accurately on the CD-Rom as "0", but on the Floppy it is always reported as if the disk was completely a completely empty HD3.5" disk(it's always identical to the "Total" space.) I can only assume this is what the emulation does when you specify cdrom or floppy with -t. In neither (CD-Rom and Floppy,) case is the "Total" space reported accurate. Now for the problem that might actually be a feature request. NOTE: They respond identically in Windows XP both through My Computer and at the Command Prompt (in case that's important.) The only thing I can really think of here is that DOSBox is treating the CD-Rom drive as a removable media device but is treating the Floppy drive as a directory. I haven't figured out a complete pattern, but I can always cause it by first trying to get a directory of the empty CD-Rom with "dir d:" then immediately trying the same with the empty floppy drive "dir a:". Also when I try to access the drive (and I forgot to mount an image,) I will "sometimes" get the error. With D.com (program I use that gives a color coded listing,) they both show "Invalid path specified." Also, when I mount the floppy drive I get a Windows XP error "Windows - No Disk" which plays holy havoc with my mouse sometimes. ![]() In DOS, they act identical showing "File: a:*.* not found" or d: for the CD-Rom. If I click on the CD-Rom, I get a win3 message "Please insert a disk", if I click on the Floppy (A:) it acts like its an empty disk, show "no files available", but does show a directory. However, there are rather major differences here. The other problem is if I mount it without an image loaded (in ejected mode.) It works just great and shows up in Windows as a drive. However, with my virtual floppy drive (got it from Here,) I have 2 problems, one the same as with the CD-Rom, and again I'll cover that later. I don't have to hit F4 to change disks (just mount the new disk on the virtual drive.) Everything is great. It mounts just fine, even when there is no image loaded (it is in ejected mode.) It show up in dos as not available (no disk,) and it shows up in windows (3.1 16bit BTW,) as an empty drive. The one issue I have would definitely fall under the category of feature request, so I'll let the paragraph below cover that. Now, with my virtual CD-Rom I'm having little to no issues. Not sure if this is a bug or if I'm requesting a feature (though, there is an aspect of this I'd like to put in feature request.) 2/29/2024 0 Comments Download the new for ios Sierra![]() iCloud Drive: This feature enabled Mac OS users to unify their documents and data across all of their Apple-compatible products, allowing for better access and control.Siri: This intelligent assistant was first featured on the desktop versions of the Mac OS in this release and brought with it a whole host of voice commands and capabilities that were previously limited to iOS devices. You can install Mac OS Sierra from MacUpdate if you would like to try it out or reinstall it.ĭownload Mac OS Sierra and access its features: These were addressed with later releases of Mac OS and are no longer a problem. We’ve had prettier-or at least more extensive-overhauls of some classic adventure games recently, including Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers and Shadowgate (and, I guess, Resident Evil HD since that’s kind of an adventure game).Missable Achievement: The Right Way - Play the whole game with tank controls. (The accompanying text says “Tim demanded this achievement.”) Of course, you could always play the whole game with tank controls and score the sweet “The Right Way” achievement. Then again, that’s why we’re PC gamers right? Plenty of possibilities and personal customization. I ended up playing with some sort of hybrid mouse/gamepad controls, which ultimately suited my needs fine. Also, some of the camera angles are designed with mouse/keyboard precision in mind, and you can trigger doors by just walking into them (which is a huge pain if you’re trying to, for instance, exit an elevator and accidentally trigger it again). My trusty 360 controller was a decent experience, but the game won’t highlight interactive objects-instead you’ll have to pay attention to which way Manny is looking. It’s a control scheme that kind of makes sense because you’re dealing with constantly-changing camera angles, so camera-relative controls are a bit awkward. Like Resident Evil (and some other early 3D games), Grim Fandango was all about tank controls. The graphics overhaul on Grim Fandango is spiffy, but honestly people who played the original will probably be most excited about the new controls. Here’s what the game looks like in 4:3 with borders. I played in the latter because I hate borders, but the obvious drawback is that “skeletal” Manny Calavera looks pretty fat, like he’s the skeleton of a retired football player. I think you need to see a doctor.”Īs for accommodating modern monitors, you can play the game in 4:3 (native), 4:3 with some vaguely Aztec or Art Deco-inspired borders on the left and right, or in 16:9 stretched. Most, if not all, have clearly just been resized to fit the higher resolutions, resulting in grainy and blurry backdrops that look entirely out of place compared to the smooth character models. Your pal Glottis is the worst of the lot, with some weird bulgy arm muscles that tend to clip through each other. Other times, a bad model or awkward shading reminds you that yeah, this is a game from 1998. At times it’s stunningly gorgeous-there’s almost a claymation feel to certain scenes. Instead we get Grim Fandango but smoothed out a bit for modern high-resolution monitors-smoother edges on 3D objects, for instance. Don’t go into this expecting as extensive a remake as, say, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. This is Grim Fandango Remastered, meaning it’s basically a prettied-up version of Grim Fandango. ![]() ![]() Now with that out of the way, let me talk about the “remastered” part of Grim Fandango Remastered. Is that asinine enough for you? Because I almost had an aneurysm typing it. Seriously, and I can’t say this enough, some of the puzzles are absurd. Don’t let the game ruin your enjoyment of the game. Just do yourself a favor: Open a walkthrough, read the solution, say “Wow, that’s asinine,” move on, and continue enjoying the game’s excellent writing. If you haven’t played before, you’re going to get stuck. ![]() Some caveats: It’s a 90s adventure game, meaning it is full of asinine puzzles where the solutions barely make sense. |
